Thanks, Yahoo, for giving me a chuckle

Saw this headline on Yahoo.com today.

"FDA Endorces Cervical Cancer Vaccine"

Do spelling errors make me laugh? Yes. Do they also make me feel a bit sad inside? Yes.

considering it should also say HPV vaccine, not cervical cancer... too bad a lot of people are ineligible for it

I feel the same way. I'm always finding errors in the Post Express ... by its name alone, I gather it's a hastily constructed compilation of news.

Everyone is freaking reporting this as a cervical cancer vaccine when it is actually a HPV vaccine! I can't believe this! It is a vaccine against HPV (an STD) and it also prevents 90% of genital warts but everyone's marketing it as a cancer vaccine. Maybe this is for better headlines but I can't help but think it's a conservative move. Broadsheet and Dan Savage have been reporting how foreign governments have been reluctant to introduce the HPV vaccine because they feel it might lead to promiscuity. The same reason some lawmakers want to restrict birth control. The war on sex is pissing me off.

Yeah, it really is ridiculous. And the sloppiness of the reporting is really bugging me too. IT's a huge step in the right direction for HPV, even though many people can't use it, but the media is really doing a bang up job of misreporting it.

Is Dan Savage talking about it a lot? I am way behind in my columns.
