So lately people keep posting poems, and it really got me thinking about poetry. I have to be honest and admit that I'm not a huge fan of it. I have a small attention span, and poetry is mostly babble. Most of the time I feel like it's someone trying to sound really smart, but they end up sounding like a complete idiot instead. I've been posting poems because lately I've been trying to get a greater appreciation for [good] poetry. I get frustrated with them very easily. For every poem I do post, there are 15 I quit reading in the middle. I agree that a lot of poetry (especially when kids nowadays write what they decide to call "poetry") is people trying to sound smart and supercool. I tend to gravitate towards simple poetry with strong words and ones usually on the shorter end of the spectrum. In my opinion the best poetry sounds effortless, like a conversation, and the worst sounds like a garbled mouthful of big, dumb words.

Well said, haha. I tend to stick to shorter poems as well, and I hate anything with unnecessarily long words. It's like the author just started punching shit in the thesaurus and picked out stuff that sounded smart. Annoying.
