Actually the English tend to refer to London as "The City" too.

New Yorkers also refer to theatre as Broadway, Off-Broadway, Off-off broadway, and then if it's outside NYC, than it's regional. Thge whole rest of the country is a region.

Don't get me started on New York's concept of "theatre." I can't believe people pay (well, paid) hundreds of dollars for a cheap seat to Cats but won't fork over 20 bucks for Shakespeare.
