Not likely. At the end of the day, they're still just the bottom halves of their tickets. The Veep debate means very little, especially this late in the game. The economy and McCain's own inadequacies will continue to drive the polls for the rest of the race.
Yeah, but a lot of right-leaners were teetering after the Palin selection because they were afraid McCain would die in office. If they're comfortable with her, they'll head back to the McCain ticket.
That, and independents will be less inclined to think less of McCain's judgment in choosing her. "Oh, she's not as bad as she's looked the last couple of weeks. Maybe she won't embarrass us after all."
I wouldn't be so quick to jump on the doom and gloom train. Several polls show that viewers thing Biden won the debate. They say that Palin performed above expectations, but at that point the bar was so low she could have done that just by not drooling on herself during the debate.
I think the best the McCain camp can say is that Palin's performance is going to help stop the slide. I don't think it's going to help him gain ground. Most of the people polled still say they don't think Palin is ready to step into the role of President if something should happen to McCain.
I don't mean to be gloom and doom. Biden was just fine. I don't think he necessarily lost the debate so much as he didn't really win it outright. Palin didn't win on substance, but that's wasn't her definition of victory for this debate. She showed herself to be in command of what she was saying (even if she didn't really say anything) and she put the spotlight back on her personality and intangibles rather than her lack of substance.
And she totally winked at me! Pretty lady likes me!
