Largely unpopular opinions on the TVD S4 finale ahead. (You have been warned.)

So, if someone came up to me and asked me outright how I felt about the TVD season 4, I'd tell them that I hate it.  However, I've had some time to think it over and while I don't loathe it with every fibre of my being, I find it to be rather problematic for various reasons.
  1. Bonnie's sacrifice felt extremely underwhelming, and not in the sense ( Read more... )

5. Is just so fucking gross. My consolations for DE is that 1) Damon's gonna fuck it up somehow, because that's what he does and 2) Elena knows it's a terrible choice she's making

What makes me laugh (and rage) is that two of the most important people to Damon who died (Rose and Ric) end up the biggest DE stans upon dying. Alaric's support makes zero sense.

1. Bonnie deserved so much better. I guess I see why JP was so excited for Bonnie's ~story this year and where it was going to lead. >.>

2. DOPPELGANGER STEFAN IS MY FAVORITE. And I know it's completely unintentional, but it makes the scene in the pilot episode 10x more awesome when Bonnie, descendent of Quetsiya, touches Stefan, descendant/doppelganger of Silas, and gets a bad bad feeling.

It is really fucking gross and I do HATE it. As a (former?) DE fan I don't know how to respond to it. And it's also really fucking nasty, because Elena admitted to not wanting to bring Jeremy back because it would risk the lives of innocents, yet she was uncaring of the town when Damon was in danger?!?! WHAT?!?!?! SO much out of character BS was going on and it makes ne want to gag.

The Bonnie stuff? Julie can go fuck herself, that's all I have to say.

Pertaining to 3, that doesn't comfort me in the least. I mean, say that Elena didn't really know about Jeremy then, why is she going to Damon to confess her undying love for him? Why is she not mourning her brother STILL? It makes absolutely no sense for her head to switch gears so fast, absolutely none. At least not with the given information we have on Elena's character, and that was REALLY the biggest problem for me.

It still seemed odd to me, especially considering the fact that we don't actually get to see Jeremy until after. I mean, YES, Elena's compassionate, but hasn't the latter half of this season been dedicated to proving that she doesn't much care for anything if Jeremy's gone? And why wasn't she given the proper time to mourn? Why, only days after realizing he's died, is she now running to Damon? Why can't the girl have a moment to herself, outside of her romantic interests? as much as it pains people to hear this, she needed it, and she deserves it. It shouldn't be all about Damon/Elena/Stefan, because this, this horrible thing had nothing to do with Damon OR Stefan, it was about Elena. And THAT is where I find the real betrayal lies, not at the hand of the character herself, but the writing. One could also see it as Elena being a poster child for mental illness, because it's just not... It's not normal to confess your undying love for someone after your last family member has died. You could chalk it up to bad writing (like I ( ... )

5. OH GOD SO MUCH HATE. What is with this show's obsession with that mindnumbing phrase. FFFFFFFFF-

Though tbh I really blame Alaric more than Damon, lol? Alaric's the one who prompted the phrase in the first place at all. Which, like, why would you even talk that way about your foster daughter. REALLY?

ESORUFHDOSUERHFOUHSERFOUSRDF I WANTED TO FLIP TABLES WHEN THEY USED IT (A-FUCKING-GAIN, LIKE ONCE WASN'T ENOUGH) AND IT MADE ME WANT TO RAMPAGE.

Alaric did prompt it, but Damon adopted it so he's responsible for its revival, lol.

No matter who says it, it's still nauseating and I hate it. (I just wish they'd left stuff like that out, because I would've enjoyed the finale a whole lot more if they had.)
