Yea, we did this case in debate. They are usually referred to as "blood diamonds" because the mining of diamonds causes much bloodshed. In Africa, tribes war against each other in order to gain the most profit from the diamonds, and slavery is definitely an issue. As for engagement rings, when I went to the Field Museum in Chi-town, I saw a stone that was rarer (and in my opinon, more beautiful) than a diamond, yet it is MUCH more inexpensive because of the lack of demand for it. I can't remember what it is called, though I mean to find out as my alternative...when, of course, that comes into necessity (read: never). :)

Wow. It looks like you're preparing for the same time frame as I am! Never seems to be a popular time for engagement ;)
If you remember the name of the rarer stone, or think of any other ones, I'd love it if you passed the info along to me!
Thanks!
