I am torn between bullet-pointing this entry, and writing in full paragraphs. There's a fair amount to cover. AGH, I keep hearing a terrifying buzzing noise and I don't know what it is!
...Screw it, I'll just write it all up. Even though I am suffering thanks to superfluous copious levels of vodka. I'll start with my Egyptian meeting. A boring topic, you might think, but OH how wrong you would be! I can't remember if I even mentioned this yesterday, so I'll possibly be repeating myself. So, I forced myself to go to Egyptian even though I hadn't done the homework and am a fool in comparison with what appears to be a linguistically genius class. I was sat next to a guy who will henceforth be referred to as Egyptian Chris, who must have seen how lost I looked, so he wrote me a note asking if I wanted a study session, I mouthed "probably" at him, not knowing if he was being serious or not. At the end of the class he asked me if I was still up for it, and I said yes and lo! We arranged to meet up yesterday at 2pm outside the HumSS cafe.
I was susprisingly not too worried about meeting up with someone I'd only spoken to once, and figured if it was awkward it wouldnt last more than 30 minutes to an hour. We started working on the homework (translating a grave inscription, woot!) and talking a bit while doing it, then we ended up stopping and chatting for intervals then remembering why we were there. I always presumed he was a third year, but he's actually my year, and was apparently in my Greek Myths seminar last year. It took us a while to work that out though, I'm sure I would remember someone that pretty! By about 10 to 3 we'd translated it and put it into the right order (not that I remember any of the signs) and he started trying to explain the grammar behind the work. I am not a grammar genius, I have to admit. Throw words as simple as preposition at me and I don't know what you're saying. So when you are faced with pictures where a snake with another sign following a verb turns it posessive (and I think that's wrong, oh I suck!), it's a bit challenging. So he suggested we needed alcohol in our blood, and we wandered off to Mojos (Uni bar) to do more work in there. Except we didn't even get it out of our bags, we just sat and chatted for 2 hours instead. Tom and Jenny turned up around 4:30pm and joined us, and they got along and it was nice. I have only known him for one day, and already I'm quite fond of him. I don't know if I "liiiike" him, but I definitely want to get to know him better and become his friend. We discovered that our mutual weirdness is complimentary, and spent most of the time testing each other on whether we liked or disliked things, and created a scale. We discussed the Boosh at one point, and because I said "but now, 1 in 5 people, I just made that figure up, I could be wrong, have watched it, so it's not as unique anymore" (he said most people hadn't heard of it, I disagreed) he raised me to a deified status, woot! It's so good to have a Classics Geek again, I have seriously missed it.
grey_seas - I mentioned our Hippolytus crack fic, he wants to read it. Is this advisable? :D
He's just so lovely. And weird. And he has very nice hair, and piercing eyes. And looks slightly like my mental picture of fic! Draco Malfoy. :) He also sits in on lectures he's interested in from other modules, which I just think is awesome. At one point, he asked me why I'm single. Heeee. Compliments are brilliant, and I'm glad I had those few hours with him, or I would have been a STATE by the end of the evening, which I will get onto eventually. Every week, the Classics dept shows a film based on a classical myth/poem/play etc, and he's said I should come along to it next week, as I couldn't make yesterday due to the play. I have agreed. Now watch as it turns out I'm squeeing over absolutely nothing. :)
So, the play was a bit...interesting. The cast for Family Farce met up, and basically we were put in the horrible position of having to vote for whether the play went on for the night or not. Simon agreed to work with her in the end, but I felt so bad for him. He was clearly uncomfortable with it, and I felt like the whole cast's energy levels just dropped. Mine certainly did. We did our best, and Alice said it was good, but meh. I hurt my elbow diving under the table this time, and omg, stage floors are painful! No-one messed up though, which is the important thing.
After that, I demanded that we do something to get our energy levels up, so we did. :D I can't remember what we did before the interval, but during it we all (well, me, Kim, Micheal and Edwin) sung Disney songs, then we were joined by others for some Queen. Group singing is the best thing ever for making you feel happy and energised.
Dai's play went well, as always. Simon accidentally broke the string off one of the hamsters, so they had to chuck them across the stage instead, but it still worked. Several times I almost burst into laughter though, thanks to Simon and Edwin. Curse them, adding lines, such as:
Simon: I killed them all and shagged their mum.
Chris: Mums, it's always mums with him-
Simon: And I shagged your mum too, WOOF!
me: Hope you enjoyed that-
Simon: *Looks straight at me and speaks in a deep voice* Yes I did.
me: *purses lips and tries to continue her line*
...Yeah. I love that play immensely. :) We got out at 10pm again, and when I said I might go home and watch Heroes, Gemma all but tackled me and dragged me towards "Da" Union. Good god I despise that place. Alice came along with us, and we went to Mojos, which wasn't too awful though the music was way too loud before the kareoke. The evening then became spectacularly fun, and seeing Joey and Peter singing Ring Of Fire together was the most hilarious thing that I've witnessed in ages! I did get raaather drunk, as I had 3 double vodkas and cokes, and me and Joey created a new game. I have no idea how we created it, but we did. It's where you mirror the other persons actions, so he'd raise his left eyebrow and I'd raise my right, which sounds simple enough, but then you'd add a sequence and it'd throw you off. It's more fun than I'm making it sound. At one point we were just sticking our tongues out at each other repeatedly, and then noticed the weird looks we were getting. :D I really love my fellow actors. <33333
THEN, the time of woe came. Chris (note - not Egyptian Chris, he remains untainted so far!)walked me home around 12am when the bar closed, and we were discussing things, drinking as we walked. I wasn't cuddling him this time around, which is good as I would have likely pushed him away and walked at a slight distance a few minutes into the walk. This is due to the fact that he said he planned to get really drunk for tonight's after-show party (oh god, it's going to kill me) and that he wouldn't mind basically getting off with Gemma. I asked if he fancied Gemma, he said not particularly. I was all ...o.0 You're a freak. And we basically argued the remaining 20 minute walk to my house, but in a weird, non angry way. I did tell him that she likes someone (Dai, but I obviously didn't tell him who) and that she would really not appreciate him coming onto her. And I know she wouldn't, not only because we've discussed our likings of Chris/Dai many a time over the last few days and she's a good friend. So yeah. I am a bit worried about our on-stage "chemistry" tonight for Family Farce, but I will make it work, and maybe I won't be annoyed at him when I see him. Even though we later exchanged drunken texts and I maaay have called him a fuckwit, then apologised. Ugh. Bad drama.
After he dropped me off at the door and gave me a big hug (why?!) I went into the lounge and Tom was there, then I went into the kitchen and cried, then returned. He guessed it was Chris related, and stayed up with me for an hour and a half cheering me up then helping me to bed, as I was still quite unsteady. Thank-you for that Tom. <3333
So, now I have an aching tummy, and nothing to do until I leave at 5:45pmish. I had planned to read my final epic text, as I plan to write an essay on it, but if this ache doesn't go away I won't be capable of reading anything, it's too distracting. I need to wash my hair as well, I had to rush home at 5 and get a lift back to campus from Verity, because I really didn't expect to be out with Egyptian Chris that long. I should plan ahead in the future.
