mithen Hooray, I got my hands on the camera! I was about to post when I saw Rai's comment, and had to scrounge up another shot. Unfortunately, the view from my window at the moment is lacking, as it's snow-melting-into-horrible-slush time, so I cheated a bit and chose a picture taken during all those snow storms a week or two ago, by my mother ( Read more... )

BWAhaha! I didn't know you had a rat and so I got to the meal picture and was like, "What in the world is that thing at the bottom? It looks like some kind of...alien baby hand from beyond the grave...oh, it's a rat!" :D Maggie definitely looks like she rules the roost!

These are great, thanks!

*is having her toes inspected to be sure they're rat-approved* Yeah, she's the queen round these parts. ^__^ I suppose it's my fault, but she's so sweet, how can I ever say no to anything?

My family would freak if I ever brought home a rat.

*seriously thinking about it for the hell of it*

:D The look on their faces would be worth it. I'm so in love with that first image...god, you had to have gotten that right after the first snow...it's completely perfect...and proper postcard material! ^-^

It certainly wasn't the first snow, and the tow-truck thing at the end of the street certainly adds an interesting element to the postcard idea, but it was a beautiful couple of days. It was actually the end of the season, one of the last snows and right before melt-time. *sigh* I wish winter lasted all year long...!

Awwww--- your rat is soo cute! I love the color. :D
We don't have big spotted rat in Thailand. Most of the Thai people hate big rat like this. They prefer a small cute mouse like Hamster. :) I used to have lots of them but I don't raise it now.

o__o These are tiny rats, though! And Maggie's the runt of her litter!

See, norvegian rats is the Big Brown Sewer Rat of horror. Ick! These are "fancy rats", and are bred purely for pet-purposes. :3 They're bred to be loyal, sweet, and clever, and Maggie specifically is a cuddle fiend. XD She stays with me all the time and hates being without me, even when my family's around. Such a sweet girl! :D

Anyway, hamsters aren't as smart, and mice smell terrible. Rats are clean and tidy, like cats.

^___^ Teaching people about rats has become a huge priority for me. I bring Maggie out in public with me three or four times a week, and I always get little kids who're dying to see her, and usually whose parents are terrified. It's great, the kids don't know about rats' reputation, or they don't care...

The difference between fancy and norvegian rats is like... dogs and coyotes. Same family, but not the same species, not really.

Although, a friend of mine managed to raise a norvege rat as a pet, when she was little. Her dad spotted it in an unorthodox petstore and brought it home, and they have pictures of these little girls, 6, 9 and 10, all cuddling this huge rat, and smiling, and the rat looks almost like a dog, all sleeping in their laps. Adorable!

It is beautiful, the snow, isn't it? *wishes winter was forever* Have you seen the movie Ratattouille? There's a documentary on the DVD, hosted by the main character, about the history of rats. :3 It's so cute!
