My gran died on Monday, and has been cremated. We're having a "homage" (not a church service, or funeral, because she would never forgive us *rolls eyes*) to her on Saturday... Which means I'm driving 18 hours and change this weekend. Hooray!
Most annoying is that my great-aunt Ghyslaine will be there. She's my gran's older sister, who treated her like shit. My gran, Béatrice, lost two of her kids to brain tumors, and the oldest is adopted. Ghiàyslaine mentioned a few years back that "If she'd had kids, she wouldn't have lost so many of them to something so stupid", and looks down her nose at Pierrot, who is a great uncle, and a great brother, and is just as much family as all the others.
She came to see Béatrice in the hospital last week and was thrown out of the room by my aunt after remarking that "Well, she didn't lose her mind at that age, now did she?"
I can't STAND the woman, and she hates my dad especially because he's always told her exactly where she could shove her opinion... ^__^; So of course, she can't stand his kids.
Ugh. Sorry for the ranting...? I do this a lot. Le-sigh.
On a more positive note, it's nice for this to finally be almost over, and I'm almost relieved that my gran's finally died. In spring we'll take her to a place in the mountains, on the edge of the highway and overlooking a lake, that she and my grampa love(d). It's where we'll bring him, too. She stopped being religious decades ago, so we feel it's better than a church ground.
Also, I suppose I'm eager to see the rest of my family.
