Martial law declared in Pakistan.

It was a typical, quiet Saturday evening. We just got home from a shopping trip to pick up a few housewares. Devin loaded BBC to see what's going on in the world and, low and behold, discovers that emergency rule has been declared in Pakistan. thanks! the us embassy did send out an e-mail alert telling americans in islamabad to stay at home... but our nationality here in lahore has never once made us feel unsafe. i think the people that have the most to worry about right now are prominent journalists and party leaders who oppose musharraf.

thank goodness for the internet, that's how we're getting our news now that the TV news cut. i wonder if radio stations ahve been shut down. we don't have a radio for me to find out, but i imagine for a lot of pakistanis radio and tv are primary sources of information rather than print or internet given low rates of literacy and access to internet facilities. we're hoping that since the internet is still on they're not going to cut it.
