There is a discussion going on at azkatraz_hpdm about whether or not Draco took the dark mark. This reminded me of one of those little recurring inconsistencies that bugs the hell out of me in fic
( Read more... )
I agree to a certain extent that the mark would fade, but I'm not sure if it would fade 100%. As for those faking Imperius, they could have been hooked up enough in the govt to let certain things slide or been hidden somehow. I sort of pictured the dark mark like a fading tattoo - it'll never go away, but isn't much more than a shadowy, ugly mark. *shrugs*
Because of the inconsistencies and the fact that it hasn't been out and stated in the series, I guess it's up to each person's interpretation.
Yeah, I agree that it is open to some interpretation, but it's become this HUGE cliche in all post-DH fic. I find it strange that no one seems to be writing about it as seemed a pretty easy interpretation of how the Mark would work. I can see either way, but I get frustrated with how taken-for-granted the whole issue is. Not that it's all that important, mind you, but still.
And sure, people could have pulled strings to not have their mark count against them, but I just have this feeling that (aside from Lucius, obviously) many of the people who did escape punishment did so because they were able to deny involvement--which would be easier without a mark showing.
I dunno. Maybe I'm just really weird to even think about it the way I do, but I can't help it. Oh, well.
I love you! I was just thinking about you last night as I was packing all the J-show stuff that I haven't sent on to you. (oops.) C and I just got a new place in the city with a guest-ish room, so you should come visit (and bring your lady)!
No worries =). I still cannot wait to see your final product (and, hopefully, show and possibly market it at Reunion 2010)! I cannot thank you enough for dedicating your time and talents to that task--would love to visit you again someday and take you ladies out for the sort of outlandish, frivolous weekend you deserve. Alas, the financial (read: student loan) forecast for the next few years is going to be miserable.
Additionally, I haven't spent nearly enough time with your lady C in my life yet, especially since she and I share so many overlapping MHC circles (of course, though, who doesn't?!). You folks will be the first to know if I'm ever in the area!
