I haven't updated this thing in forever, but why not? A festive survey, because I am starting to get in the spirit!
1. Which do you like better, egg nog or apple cider?
Both are so delicious. I don't care, as long as it gets me blitzed :D
2. If you like egg nog, what's your favorite flavor (there's pumpkin, vanilla, and all sorts of stuff)?
There are? I duno. Standard egg nog. Egg nog flavor.
3. Do you prefer real Christmas trees or fake ones?
I grew up with real trees. I love having a real tree in the house. But I hate watching it die. We switched to a fake tree last year.
4. What winter holiday do you celebrate?
Christmas, New Years.
5. What are you hoping to get as presents?
NEW BOOKSHELF, what what! Also my mum got me a set pf luggage and really cute boots that I am super excited about.
6. What are you giving to others?
Books, books! I love buying books!
7. Are you doing any sort of charity work for the holiday season (maybe volunteering, donating, etc.)?
I donate to the Salvation Army bucket of course. My work does charitable programs that I am taking part in (although I get assigned to them, and I get paid, so that does not really count, does it?)
8. Who will you be spending the holiday with this year?
My husband and our respective families.
9. Do you celebrate a holiday that doesn't go along with your religion (ex. I'm an Atheist, but I celebrate Christmas because my family does and 90% of my friends, so I celebrate the gift-giving and charity aspect of it, not the religious part)?
I celebrate Christmas but I am not a Christian. I celebrate the spirit of the holiday more so than the religious aspects.
10. How old were you when you found out there was no Santa Claus?
I duno... maybe 7 or 8?
11. Did you ever know someone who celebrated two holidays (ex. Christmas and Hannukah)?
Nah. Most of my friends aren't very religious but still celebrate Christmas.
12. Do you like snow?
The first snow. After that, I despise it.
13. Does it even snow that much in your area? When was the last time you had a major blizzard?
Not a ton, usually, but last year we had snowpocalypse, or whatever the media was calling it.
14. Ever been to a grocery store in the midst of a blizzard warning? Is it like hell on Earth (it really is, so don't say no)?
No... I am not the panicky "run out and buy bread! milk! candles! deodorant!" type. I prefer to rough it out and if I run out of deodorant, I will deal.
15. Do you know any friends with a December birthday? Do you know if their holiday gifts get combined with their birthday gifts (ah, must be so sad to have that happen)?
I think my aunt's birthday is the day after Christmas or something of that sort. And Amanda's is so soon after New Years!
16. Did you ever shovel snow for money?
Ha, I am lucky I shovel my own car out.
17. Ever had a white Christmas?
Maybe? I am sure at one point or another there was snow for Christmas.
18. What was the best gift you ever got for the holidays?
Oh, man. Sleeping Sherman. Best Christmas present EVER! I do also remember loving the Barbie house I got one year.
19. Did you cry when you got clothes as gifts when you were little?
No, of course not. I wasn't such a brat.
20. Do you have a significant other this season? If so, what will you be getting them? If you're single, how do you feel about being single during the holidays (I'm single, don't be upset, it's not bad!)?
I am married, so yes. I got him a sick new microwave :) We are old people. Also a couple other little things.
21. Are you sick of holiday songs on the radio, or do you like that music?
I haven't heard many Christmas songs on the radio, because I don't really listen to the radio... the only times I've been bombarded with Christmas music this year is when I go into stores, and I can usually tune it out.
22. Have you seen any light shows?
...? Like... the laser light show at Hersheypark? :)
23. Does your family (or you, if you don't live with them) put up lights for the holidays?
My parents did when I lived at home. We put up a tree this year, but nothing else.
24. What's the one gift you want the most this season, that would satisfy you for the rest of the year?
Um... love. I got that anyway, though.
25. Do you bake cookies? What kinds do you normally make? Are those peanut butter cookies with the Hershey's kiss in the middle not the most amazing cookies ever?
I do the break and bake cookies! They're too good. I am making brownies with peanut butter cups for work, though (still a box mix, bwahah)
26. Where did you do most of your holiday shopping?
Umm... I usually get most of my stuff from Border's & Best Buy.
27. Did you go out on Black Friday?
No effing way.
28. When is "too soon" to start talking about the winter holidays?
Any time before Thanksgiving.
29. Do you work at a job that requires you to say "Happy Holidays" instead of referring to a specific holiday?
Well... I work for the state, so I guess technically it should, separation of church and state and all that. But I've seen programs and things that say Christmas on them.
30. Did you ever work in retail on Black Friday? How was it?
Yes, last year I did the midnight madness nonsense, and it was completely absurd. The first two hours or so was insane. Our credit lines went down and the line was ridiculous... for SOCKS! After that, though, it was dead and Sarah and I were exhausted and trying to stay awake until 6 am. Then I had my wedding reception to get ready for! It was an interesting day :)
31. What's your favorite holiday tradition?
Man, when I was a kid, Christmas rocked. Christmas Eve, we would go to my dad's side of the family and eat shrimp and deliciousness and presents and party all night long. Then Christmas day would be opening presents at the house followed by an all day affair at my mum's side (plus the best Christmas dinner in the effing world). It was awesome. Christmas was just awesome. Now I am old and it isn't even that exciting anymore. Christmas Eve is a blur of visiting, stopping by at Jayel's grandparents is always tense and unhappy (I dun even know why. No one likes anyone on that side of the family). I don't even see my parents on Christmas day. It sucks. Maybe I am just being nostalgic, but when I was a kid, our family traditions were completely rad.
32. Favorite holiday food?
Shrimp, hehe, and prime rib, ham is the traditional, although I prefer turkey, and, even though I haven't had it for years and years, my grandmother's clam chowder for Christmas lunch.
33. Did you ever go caroling?
Hmm. I don't think I ever did, actually.
34. Did you ever string popcorn and hang it from a tree? Or maybe string cookies?
One year, it took forever and I think our dog ate it off the tree.
35. Favorite holiday song?
Charlie Brown Christmas is the best of the best of the best.
36. If you had to choose, who would you kiss under the mistletoe?
If i HAD to choose... :) Jayel of course. Or Moxie.
37. Did you ever re-gift something? Did it work out (I do it all the time, don't feel guilty :D)?
Maybe? I don't remember any specific instances.
38. Would you ever buy a gift that was used (ex. something from Goodwill or a garage sale) for someone, even if it was in perfect condition?
Of course, if it was perfect for them.
39. Is it just me, or are gift cards the most annoying gift ever? Just give me money, right (though it's all appreciated, it's the thought that counts of course)?
I like gift cards. If I get money, I just spend it on bills. Boring!
40. Who in your family is the HARDEST to buy gifts for? What about the easiest?
My mom and dad both are. Mum usually can never decide what to tell us to get her and my dad always says "nothing." Hmmph.
41. When the holidays are over, are you in a rush to be finished with winter already?
There is nothing after the holidays. January and February can go die in a fire.
42. What does your winter jacket look like?
Greenish-brown knee length puff warm coat with fur on the hood.
43. What's your typical style in the winter?
Sweaters and jackets and warmth.
44. What do you plan on wearing for the holidays when you see your family? Do you dress up or is it all relaxed?
Dress up on Christmas eve, comfortable on Christmas.
45. Do you have any holiday parties to go to? Maybe thrown by friends or a party at work?
Partyyy! Starting tonight, actually, then all this weekend.
46. Do you like to try out all those holiday recipes that are advertised all over?
Nah, I don't cook much for Christmas. Just premade cookie dough and whatnot.
47. Favorite kind of cheesecake?
Um... any?
48. Do you buy a yule log each year?
I don't think we ever had one. I don't even have a fireplace anymore :(
49. Do you remember your worst holiday ever?
One year, there was a huge ice storm on Christmas day and no one could make it to the house to celebrate Christmas. I think I slept that whole Christmas day away, hah.
50. What about the best?
Any one 1999 and earlier (My grandmother had a stroke in early 2000, changed our Christmases a lot).
