Wow. And yeah, I'd totally be calling that taxi company and complaining. That is just wrong, but I am so relieved that you are fine. What an afternoon.
I think I'll save the complaint and just try the competition. I just really hate that I can't still walk home from the store (I get overheated when I try it).
And thanks! Yes, it definitely wasn't on my to-do list1
We have had a small heat wave...high 80s, low 90s. On Tuesday when I left for the store, it was in the mid-70's. By the time I got home, it was 85.
Looking back on the afternoon, I'm pretty sure I started getting too hot when the woman came out to water the plants. It took the climate from desert to rain forest in pretty short order.
I would urge you to not simply try the competition. If they promise you a cab in 20 minutes and one doesn't turn up for 2 hours, something is dreadfully wrong and their management needs to know it. Write a letter. If nothing else, you'll get a profound apology. And at best, maybe they'll send you your money back... but they need to fix things... and I cannot believe they actually charged you for that ride!
(Heck, I can't believe your patience in continuing to wait for that company instead of calling some other company...)
Apparently they did send a cab after my second call, but by that time I had fainted and didn't know it was there so it left, according to what was told to a store manager. Since I didn't actually make the last two calls, I don't know all that was said, but there may have been a small bit of misinformation regarding whether or not I was (contagiously) sick and where it was I needed to go.
Since I'm missing some information, all I can really complain about is the first cab being late.
I haven't used their competition, so I really don't know if it's better. I'm not one to burn bridges, and I think this is one I don't want to burn.
Also, this is a small town, and for various reasons I don't need to be known as the town crank :-)

They should have given you the ride free.
