Red Cross / Red Crescent is always a valid place to donate money for any relief effort if in doubt about the validity or handling of others.

Also, Yahoo has this article right on the front page which mentions a number of organizations:

Red Cross is always a good decision.

That was primarily for people who may wanted to use primarily help_japan, as they're not fully sure where all donations may go yet.
