On the top, unreachable, unseeable shelf in my study is a load of Stuff. Looks like mostly magazines, fanzines, in those cardboard boxes especially designed to store such. I don't remember what they are, and I have not looked at them in, oh, seven or eight years ( Read more... )

Hah, yes. And if you do get someone else to do the deed who doesn't have the emotional baggage, years later you'll lie awake going, "I wonder where X got to..."

Or realize too late that what they threw out as old junk was actually the original packing for something that would double it's resale value to a collector.

Only a couple of days ago I was writing about the division of organisational books into 'breezy tips for organising your stuff so it's easy to find' and 'heartfelt examinations of what's causing your hoarding habit'.

'Original packaging' is *just about* worth keeping if the thing is seriously valuable, but in that case you'll be keeping it *in* the original packaging. For everything else, you're talking about the difference between £4.80 and £9.60. Time spent on Amazon and eBay can really help here.

But what's with the paper fetish, guys?
