OH! Lord, that makes some sense. Way for them to pull THAT out of the past. Gah. But it still doesn't really jive with the womanizer image that they play up pretty much any time he's onscreen ever.

Yep. Early in a series continuity is fluid. This is true of most shows -- the first half-season, anything might have been true.
