Well, that was interesting. And by interesting I mean awful.

Dateline: last night, around 2 AM.

Despite very, very bad abdominal pain and vomiting so hard he broke little capillaries in the skin around his eyes, I am proud to report that Duncan remained clear-headed enough to both ask "Hey, who wants to take me to the hospital?"1 and note that he he was getting better, did not want to go on the cart, and felt happyyyy!2 Unfortunately, by that time he was on a cool hospital bed with wheels and stuff, which is really basically a cart if you think about it. Hah!

So. To summarize what we learned during our interesting stay....
  1. It probably isn't appendicitis.
  2. But we don't really know WHAT it is.
  3. IV morphine is good.
  4. The nice x-ray tech is in a co-op program and might come back to this job after he graduates.
  5. This is not an optimal way to get out of exams.
  6. When planning an all-night stay in the emergency room with your spouse or significant other, bring change for the vending machines.

Duncan's hurting much, much less at the moment, having been sent home to rest with strict instructions to come right back if anything changes for the worse within the next few days. He would be doing exactly the same thing had they kept him in the hospital for observation, only more expensively, more uncomfortably, and without the benefit of ferret nursemaids.

So, for the moment... yay?
