This has been a real learning experience - my first attempt at Welsh-inspired quilting, definitely the most complicated machine quilting I've ever attempted, and on a new machine. There's a lot I'd do differently next time and at times I've felt like Penelope, the amount that had to be undone and redone, but the most important thing is that it is * ( Read more... )

That's absolutely beautiful, I'm in awe!

I'm just a wannabe quilter (never made one in my life) so I'm completely in awe. How long did it take? And what's the book called?

Join us! elfbystarlight originally converted me, then I turned around three years later and recruited her back to the fold when she was going through a fallow patch. Making Welsh Quilts is the book, I sent it to her in mid-June, and as I recall she started sketching for the quilt almost immediately.

I may not have mentioned this on the phone, Dusk, but my first response to that quilt was, "Eeeee!" And I'm still thinking that every time I see it.

I may well do that, although I'm only just at the biting my lip wondering if I even have the skill to make a quilt stage yet! I also have ambitions to make a quilt for friends of mine who just got married though and I've been wanting to get into the hobby for years.

:D Thank you :D

As elettaria says, the book is called Making Welsh Quilts by Mary Jenkins and Clare Claridge. It's a good book with some starter projects as well as an overview on general trends. I'm not sure if it's an ideal first quilt book but it's pretty inspiring :D Welsh quilting is a tremendously underappreciated tradition/design field, and I don't think there are any other books around ( ... )
