Taking Something From DA to LJ.

Okay, so the well-known artist of the pretty-pretty Disney Heroes series made a blog post a bit ago. David Kawena had a journal post about the creator of animated TV show "Ren & Stimpy" (John K) making an entry on his blog about "the recycled 'stock' material in animated movies, especially Disney, specifically 'TANGLED'.The blog post Kawena linked ( Read more... )

The creator of Ren and Stimpy is complaining about other art styles when his has always been excessively grotesque? Umm...okay. Just because other studios quickly learned that a character has to look appealing to even be watched (and possibly believed as a 'hero' character) and he didn't doesn't mean it's bad to make appealing characters... I never thought any of the human characters looked liked they'd been reused from one movie to the next - barring sequels of course, but perhaps one needs a better eye to notice such things... (The animals, however, look like they suffer from being designed by the same artist. Gasp! Horrors! Seriously, the only character that had a familiar look to me in the Tangled trailer was the horse. It looks like it was designed by the same artist who designed Bolt ( ... )

Yeah. I think the irony may be lost on him.
I agree. Aside from having basic stylistic similarities, I'm not seeing the reuse, and this guy is just a worst offender in a long line of whiners recently claiming that Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks are using the same character models over and over again, and frankly I'm getting sick of it.

Yes! People need to get it through their heads that Tropes are not bad. Tropes are just tried and true concepts to build a story with.

Yeah, don't read that drivel while thinking. It'll give you a headache.

Whiny seems a perfect description to me. :)

It's the same argument I've seen on DA for years trashing anime versus cartoon/realistic styles. They're just styles, and they don't all look alike if you pay attention.
It's amusing that he's whining about "no change in 7 years" since really seven years isn't much time for a new art style to come into play and evolve diversity within it. Patience grasshopper. Yeesh.

You would think people would learn to play nice in the sandbox after so many years, but apparently not.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is about reused animation. It's not like Disney was the first or will even be the last to do it.

People being nice? What is this blasphemy? *eyeroll* I almost hate the internet some days.

I don't even know. But my point is that it isn't being reused, and people are getting their panties n a wad over a style choice.
