April hasn't been the funnest month for me

Apr 22, 2009 11:37

So I've been ill this past week or so. I'd actually caught a minor cold right before Phoenix, but shook it off in time for the trip. I then proceeded to be rather travel-weary for the next few days, only to be tossed into a car for twenty-four hours with Dad and E, burning rubber to Tampa to check in on Joanie and Ed (who'd been hospitalized last ( Read more... )

Ew. Here's hoping it ain't allergies. Because that means you'd get it all the time.

It doesn't strike me as an allergy thing. There's usually more teary eyes involved. (Possibly me telling him than I'd been more emo than usual this past month or so had him thinking the teary-eyed was allergic reaction instead of hormonal?)

Hmm, yes cold symptoms and allergy symptoms can overlap. Certainly my colds often start with allergy symptoms, and as a kid, I always used to get sick more often during allergy seasons because one thing would lead to another.

In your case I would guess that, if your doctor thinks it's a virus then obviously an antibiotic won't do any good, so he's trying to at least give you something to help with the symptoms. An antihistamine like Xyzal could likely help with sinus drainage and sore throats. I don't know much about dizziness; not sure if or how it might impact that.

Regardless, hope you feel better soon!

What she said. One of the active ingredients in many cold medications is an antihistamine of some sort. And some of the consequences of allergies are sore throat and coughing due to mucus drainage from the nasal passageways. So if you do have allergies acting up, they could be exacerbating your illness, and either way the meds ought to help out your symptoms. Good luck! <3

And I'm really sorry you're feeling so shitty. I wish I could do something. :( Take care of yourself, Elf.

Woo. :) I've known some of the bits and pieces about allergies and the immune system in general for so long that I start to forget *why* it makes sense. And then second-guess myself when I try to work it out in my head. Thanks for the validation.
