Went and saw 9 yesterday with Lee. Got there half an hour early, saw the line and went "oh, hey, why are all these people here? There are no interesting movies playing." (Gamer looks lame, District 9 has been out awhile, there were four kiddie movies, and let's not even discuss The Time Traveler's WifeActually, no, let's, because I love making ( Read more... )

In my head, he's most famous as Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music, but he's got an IMDB page as long as my arm. Possibly longer. Including, amusingly enough, a role as Klingon General Chang in Star Trek 6.

Seem to have some tag-closing issues, here.

I did read The Time Traveler's Wife a couple years ago -- found it used, and the description on the back cover intrigued me. I guess the best way to put it is that I enjoyed the book while I was reading it. It is touching and piecing together how the time travel works was fun and even the young Claire, older Henry scenes do a reasonably good job of steering away from skeezy territory. Then I hit the last fifty pages and didn't like the way the book ended at all. Not killed by a car, btw -- shot within earshot of teenage Claire. Icky.

Anyway, that's my conflicted reaction to the book. Really don't feel any need to see the movie and am enjoying all the negative reviews, bwahaha.

Thanks for the recommendation on 9! And my brother had good things to say about Ponyo -- sorry to hear that didn't work out for you last weekend.

In the book I have no doubt the author avoided skeeziness. She struck me as a romanticist, and they're totally with characterization and really showing everyone's thoughts and feelings. It's plot they sometimes lose track of.

It's Hollywood and its love of sex that worry me. You lose the narration and just get the visuals. And they'll want to tart it up. Because the producers are no doubt fantasizing about finding their own nubile, barely-legal young things to jump.

(Also, omg, what is E watching right now? There's moaning. *gets up to shut door*)
