I have lost control of the things that happen in my head.

So I signed up for dc_everafter, right? Yay, rainbows and unicorns and puppies abound! Until I outlined my story and realized it's going to be upward of like 90 k most likely. Naturally, I blanche at that idea since I'm a big ol' sissy and that much work scares me. Only thing is, I'm in love with this story idea and it's brilliant and all, but I ( Read more... )

I shall see your cookies and beer and raise you genuine Kentucky bourbon and pie.

This story though is more of a vagabond/rider for hire Dean and a solitude-loving/pro riding instructor/problematic past Castiel. :3 And everything that you could imagine happening with that scenario...it happens.

Jesus Christ, if I knew a fic of mine would end up being 90K words I'd probably have a stroke. I've been working on one fic for the last year and it's only about 20K.

I find that when it comes to niche areas of expertise (like horses), you should write it to appeal to people who know what's what. People who don't can usually figure things out as they go and follow along just fine, even if they have to tune out some of the particulars. And the equestrians in the audience will appreciate the accuracy.

"Perhaps I should take a poll: dressage rider Dean and Cas - hot or not?" HOT HOT HOT. Hot forever.

"Or why can't I enlist Misha, Jensen and a bunch of sexy expensive well-trained friesians and just make a movie instead?" Why not indeed? Perhaps we can take up a collection.

Yes, this is excellent niche writing advice. I believe I shall do just that, since 1) accuracy is something I strive for and 2) it's just hella easier to write this sort of story that way. Going back and doing definitions and explanations would be such a hassle. Ta, love. :3

a hot man in tight pants and tall boots and a sharp overcoat and tophat on a giant black horse that looks like it just stepped out of a fairy tale is straight up porn to me. But alas, I wonder if others will share this view. Perhaps I should take a poll: dressage rider Dean and Cas - hot or not?
