It definitely started out a little slow, but about halfway through it got cooking and did not let up, and the ending was great. Can't wait to see where it goes.
Is he wearing that fanboyishness on his "slave" or his "sleeve"? Giggle.
That said, I'm one of the very few who thinks that "Train Job" was an *awesomely good* pilot. (That said, we should totally have seen Serenity (eps) first, and I am pissed at Fox for screwing up the order, but if Serenity (eps) hadn't existed, I think it was very well paced (and you *know* pacing is an issue of mine) and did a fabulous job of introducing the world, characters, and relationships while being a solid stand-alone ep.)
Wow...I think you're the first to notice that typo. *snerk*
I do like the Train Job quite a bit. I didn't really notice the rather large plot holes until they were pointed out to me later, and it does a pretty great job of introducing Mal especially. So yeah, I pretty much agree with all your points here.
Pacing's a big issue with me too--which is why the first quarter to half of Dollhouse felt pretty weird and un-Joss-like to me. Rachael and I have a running gag about 'the Serenity chair.' Whenever we see a poorly paced film, we start talking about how the director should be strapped into the aforesaid chair--forced to watch the film Serenity over and over until he gets how great pacing works. *g*
Well, one big one, really--the fact that no one on the train notices/reports a great big spaceship flying and then hovering overhead right about the time the medicine is stolen.
But then, I didn't notice it until someone pointed it out to me, so...still a great ep.
