Recycling gaming characters for fun and = Profit?

I'm supposed to be painting the new cover for The Alarna Affair, and sketching this weeks illustration for The Germhacht Episode , and working on writing the next book.  Also running my small business, getting a whole lot of stuff ready for Metrocon, Otakon and Gencon, and oh God the housework.
Naturally therefore, all my brain wants to think about ( Read more... )

This is rather amusing to me, especially since the fish has sprung up again in my head-space as my newest muse. This being any indication.

I was pondering about something though. I know Panda is your main T-shirt artist, but I was wondering if you'd possibly run an Etienne-inspired hoodie to go along with your blackfeather one. Or if you'd like me to come up with any WoW-based funny shirts. It seems like half of the anime nerds are also wow nerds, so they might sell at both Gencon and anime conventions.

Anyway, let me know. The fish sends his love. ^^

Woo!
A fish hoodie would be fun! Feel free to pitch me any design ideas you have for fooshy layers. If you make them I can print them.

I would also be all about the WoW Ts. I've been thinking something like that would be awesome for Gencon especially, but I don't know WoW well enough to think up good ideas myself for them.

It would be great to have more shirt designers on board. :)
And yay for fish love!

So far I've drawn up a Night Elf from WoW. I was wondering how simple the designs need to be to be printed? And what I'll be limited to as far as how many colors and such.

For fish hoodie... how hard do you think it would be to print sea-elf ears on either side of the hood? If we can manage it, I think it would bring a lot of interest from all elf-lovers. And I was thinking seagull wings for the back, but not sure if it's too much like your hoodie if I do that too.

And... I will probably have a million more questions just like these soon. xD; so shall I bug you at your emailz? and which one should I use?

E-mail is pretty much the best way to get hold of me, but here's a string of answers.
The maximum amount of colors for any shirt is four, with the tools we have available. Every color used needs its own screen.

Strong lineart seems to transfer best, but some neat litho effects can be achieved when more detailed stuff only partially comes through in backrounds. Still, if you want to see what you're printing, strong B&W is what you want. Each layer/color gets printed on a transparency and then laid over a screen coated with photo emulsion, that has to be developed, (We use sunlight), and then sprayed out with a high pressure water gun. (We use an attachment on our shower head)
Three to four layers are pretty time and work and supply intensive, but can look really cool.
Wings are classic and cannot be overdone. XD
The ears idea sounds cute! It may take some ingenuity to make a platen for the hood. Those may need to be hand screened after the rest of the shirt is done. But its doable and a neat idea.

Ooooh. You have quite the dilemma there, and I'm sorry I don't have an answer for you. Stability is a great thing, it lets us sleep easy at night with a constant and (hopefully) survivable level of income. But then some of the world's most successful businesses are a product of taking risk, and they say that you only live once. It's a really tough decision to make, and one with which I wish you all the best.

I don't think I've ever told you this before, but I love how you draw eyes. So emotional.

"When is it okay to throw stability to the winds and just jump? "

In my opinion, when you've thought it out, discussed it with anyone that might be affected by it, and decided it is time! Which sounds like now for you. Honestly, Ruth, you've never had a problem finding a job when you need it- because you'll take pretty much anything. So if it doesn't work out and you need money, you'll find something. Hopefully something better than where you work now! So go for it, is my vote ;)
