Spinning wheel for sale

I'm selling my 24" red oak Rick Reeves Saxony style spinning wheel, with accessories.

Photos on my Flickr account.

Rick Reeves 24” Saxony style wheel for sale. Red oak, with walnut insets on the wheel rim, hand made by Mr. Reeves about 1994, purchased new from Woodland Woolworks at SOAR ‘94.

It comes with the orifice hook, 2 extra whorls that store under the table, 7 oak bobbins, the folding Lazy Kate that will hold up to 6 bobbins, and a RR niddy noddy, all original. Both the Kate and the niddy are signed by Mr. Reeves. (I didn’t know that the Kate was signed until I was taking photos!) It’s set up for double drive, but I believe it can be converted to scotch tension fairly easily. I also have the brass plate that says it’s made by Rick Reeves, but it was never installed, because I could never decide where to place it.

In addition, there’s a fabulous custom bag made by the original Bag Lady, Elaine Almquist. It’s heavyweight organic Fox Fibre, naturally brown cotton, with a carry strap and big outside pockets. It’s great protection for the wheel, but you should probably be a little taller than 5’3 to plan on carrying it around with the shoulder strap, I can just barely keep it from dragging.

I think this is about the most beautiful spinning wheel in the world. It’s a lovely smooth spinner, and a better spinner than me could spin at quite a high speed. It has a wide treadle with toe and heel action, and you can treadle with either one foot or both, making it easy to shift positions so you don’t get tired. I spent about 6 hours easily spinning on it at a demo back in May. The reason I’m selling? Space. The wheel is big, and the house is small and cluttered!

Yarn in pictures not included, and please pardon the dust! (Gosh, it photographed well! :-)
