On the way to school this morning, I was entertained by a twenty minute discussion of which Pokemon belonged in which generation, and what they evolved into, followed by a similar analysis of the human protagonists. It's nice Daffodil Ranger and Captain Enthusiastic have an interest in common ;-)

Victoria Coren's book is out in paperback, which ( Read more... )

Captain Jack Harkness, Captain James Kirk, Captain Slow and - and - another captain of whom I've presumably never heard. Blast!

Also, I feel I should be capable of working out whatever group 'Ketchum' is in. Hmmm.

(Donald Duck, Francis Drake...? Oh, I don't know.)

Coming up with your own Only Connect wall is a brilliant idea, incidentally. IT IS A SHAME THAT I AM APPARENTLY RUBBISH AT IT.

BARLOW, DONALD, JASON AND WILLIAMS ARE MEMBERS OF TAKE THAT.

EDIT: Oh, hang on, Howard could fit into that group as well. You fiend! (If it's Howard rather than Donald, Donald is free to explore my tenuous duck link.)

Official guess: Barlow, Howard, Jason, Williams.

I am now imagining Take That with added Donald Duck, and it is HILARIOUS.

Hello, I may be in the UK end May/early June (AFTER The Wedding). Will you chaps be around? I'm on no-pay leave, so I can stay for a while if you've got the space.

That would be lovely :-)

We do have some stuff booked already...

28th May to 5th June is half term, Monday 30th May is a Bank Holiday.

I am going to Sunderland to see Take That on Sat 28th May (with overnight stay), but the others should be around. We said we would go and see JC's mum in Surrey on the weekend of 4th/5th June - just one night away again. The couple of weeks both before and after half term are also feasible.

Let me know when your plans firm up - I'll pencil you in for now ♥

OK, after half-term provisionally, then. I need to send some time in London at the British Library anyway.

See how your other plans work out, and you can come and go as you please ♥

Thanks to Riona's captain reasoning: Captain Jack Harkness, Captain Kirk, Captain Slow and Captain Scarlet (although if we use Robbie Williams' reasoning, Captain Barlow would count as well :p)

Clare, Peter and Nathan are all in Heroes, so maybe there's another Heroes character as well in there.

Barlow, DOnald, Howard and Jason would be Take That. Or with added Williams. But then if I use Williams and Ketchum, I have a set of two for 'characters called Ash'.

Like Riona, anon, your official set of four is wrong, but you are also, like Riona, quite warm :-)

Oh! Oh!

Ash Ketchum, Hazel Blears - both share their first names with a type of tree. Can anyone continue this line of thought?

Also, I'm going to go for Harkness, Kirk, Slow and Blackett as captains.

Harkness, Kirk, Slow and Blackett no

I think you need to find another set first, then all might become clearer :-)

You were my most likely suspect, but still null points, I'm afraid ♥

I'm starting to suspect the whole Take That thing is a massive herring, because surely you'd have a set of four by first names OR last names, and there're only three last names and two first names to make that set.

If, theoretically, one were trying to think up an Only Connect wall, one would start with a set of names, and then free associate from them, in order to have some entertaining sets and some misleading connections.

Hypothetically, of course ;-)
