DA (Deviant Art) had a policy that sounded similar a while back, and that's pretty much why I don't have a DA account. Didn't know about Photobucket, though, and I use them to upload pictures to put on my LJ... be changing a few settings, I will.

Thanks for the heads-up on the sketchy policies!

Hello, no, deviantArt does not have such policy, no worries. That was a rumour reposted from one journal to another, but appeared to be therms of service misunderstanding. But Photobucket does, unfortunately, clearly stated in their TOS as the video shows and almost no one knows about it.

Tekararogue might be referring to DA prints accounts. Years ago, you had to pay a one-time fee to be able to sell prints through DA, but that was changed in 2006; now all accounts are enabled with a basic print account, allowing anyone to sell prints through DA for free; Premium prints accounts, which include quicker file approval, larger file sizes, and higher profits from sales, are $24.99 a year. Under this new policy, the art thieves on DA (and those who mistake DA purpose and use it like PhotoBucket to upload images they found on the web) have the easy ability to sell prints without any risk to them. This isn't quite like what PhotoBucket does, but it's similar in many of the same unfortunate ways.

I'm permanent dA print account owner, lucky to buy it before changes. Basic account users can submit anything, but prints go under inspection - not only quality. In basic accounts case the inspection happens only if someone orders a print, while on premium accounts right away after submission. If the artwork is stolen chances are it will be reported before anyone steps on it to order prints and these really don't sell easy. But who would let 72 DPI little image to go under quality inspection over there, when they demand really big images for the bets quality ( ... )

Thanks for posting this. I didn't find out about this until a couple months ago and I immediately set my album to private.

I think that NOT tagging you photos can be helpful too. I could be wrong but that's just my opinion. I think your photos are less likely to appear in a search if they are not tagged, or named for that matter.
