China launched a surprise crackdown on plastic bags on Tuesday, banning production of ultra-thin bags and forbidding its supermarkets and shops from handing out free carriers from June 1.

Shifting to the 'bags for life' they sell over here and sometimes give away as well as the sturdier jute ones, it is an area I am seeking to be more 'green in'. We do tend to recycle the flimsier bags but cutting down on them entirely would be great.

Groovy. Now, if they can just stop fouling up their rivers with acidic byproducts and toxic waste, they'll be sound as a pound.
