What happened to originality and creativity?

I downloaded another album by Delerium called "Chimera" and was listening to it on the way to work this morning. One of the pieces entitled "Eternal Odyssey" surprised me. Embedded within Delerium's beats and vocals was the "Cantique de Jean Racine" by Faure sung by the Cambridge Singers. It was a straight lift! Though it makes a lovely piece ( Read more... )

While I don't mind some sampling... flaming_mo September 20 2006, 02:00:47 UTC
The simplest explanation, particularly for those who take the credit for other's work or plagiarism? Because they're lazy, amoral, and arrogant enough to think that everyone else is so stupid they'll never get caught.

I think you're right about people thinking everyone else is too stupid to catch on!

I know someone that at various times in our relationship has talked about having a Bachelor's degree. However, the story keeps changing about the field in which the degree was awarded. Everytime the story changes I wonder just how stupid this person thinks I am.

If you're going to lie, cheat, steal, or otherwise show your amoral tendencies the least you can do is keep your story straight!

I think a lot of what goes into dishonest behaviors is a sad lack of self-esteem. All too often a person with a bad self-concept tries to cover for it by creating a false front to hide behind. In some people this fantasy becomes so real that I think they actually (almost) convence themselves that it is true.

I'll definitely agree with you on that one point, while I can't stand pathological or profesional liars, at least I can kind of respect a good one!

I think however, that many folks are too reliant on external sources to boost their self-esteem. Sometimes self-initiative can be a big boost to one's self. For example, if your friend doesn't have a degree and feels insignificant about it; rather than lying about it, they should go out and achieve that goal. Sure, it may be a slower and more arduous means of self-gratification, but it is more solid and tangible. Temporary positive feedback from others is a hollow victory, especially when you don't truly respect yourself. Also, while it's great to be your own best friend, make sure you aren't your own "Yes Man" for questionable decisions.
