We finally pulled the trigger on a craptop. Touch screen, rainproof... all the usual things one looks for in a portable nerdbox. I know Apple is all jordache but I'm not willing to learn Logic when I can use cubase in my sleep and I can't give up my cartography addiction, either.

No, I'm sleeping with bill gates. I know how to use Steinberg's Cubase (very well) so I am really stuck on the PC platform. I don't use ProTools because I can't afford the TDM plugins, I can get wAr3z versions of most VST plugins but the TDM stuff is much harder to find. For example, I use "Waves Gold" from time to time for the reverb and single-channel compressor. Cost? $0. Porn and warez. But the TDM version is $900 and you can't really find it for free.
Here's a secret: the "next big thing" is Ableton's "Live" product. It lets you fuck up songs and make insane mixes but it has a mega steep learning curve. That's what I want to run and figure out how to use.
