fanfic grumble

Why do people never warn for Het?

I mean 26 chapters into a wonderful Gen fic and then suddenly there's a wife or girlfriend dropped into your lap, no mention of them before and no reason for them to be in the story bar just to make the characters drop out of character and make a mockery of the whole story.

I was enjoying it too....

Got to agree with you there - not so much warning for het (I had to put up a big modpost a while back in the slash comm I run telling people that, no, they didn't have to warn for homosexuality, so I see it as working both ways, personally), but if you're going to bring in people's real wives or girlfriends, yeah, writers should definitely warn for that!

If it's in a certain comm then yeah you don't need to warn for what should be there just the unexpected.

But then it's probably what I get for wandering off the comms into the wilds of FF.net
but 26 chapters then surprise! it was even listed as general/adventure not romance and the writing went down hill after that too....
*is still sulking in the corner*

Oh - I hate that! Why do people think we need to add warnings for slash and none for het? Drives me mental!

Especially as it is in a fandom (which I am never admitting to reading) that I was almost sure there could only be gen fic cos any relationship makes even my gutter residing mind balk.

What is really annoying me is in my stressed and sleep deprived state the little demon that lives at the back of my head has chirped up with the words "if people write het for it then where's the slash?" and for once in my life I'm trying to to think about it.
