I'm so relieved to hear about your new situation -- I hope you can stay a while.

I've long thought about finding some way to help create a library for a shelter. Long ago in NYC I offered to help a woman who was struggling with a baby in a sling and several bags of groceries, and we chatted as I walked with her to the shelter where she was staying. She turned out to be an avid reader who plowed through books at quite a clip. I wish I'd done something about that then, but it was dark and I was uncertain where exactly we wound up, so I didn't. Reading your posts makes me think about that again.
