Today is fuchs' birthday and I'm damn proud of the drawing I gave her. I did it on Saturday and Sunday and it was terribly hard not to show it to her in advance. It shows the Capitan, which is the most important character of her novel-to-be. It seems that I almost perfectly hit her imagination of this character and this makes me unbelievable happy! :D ( Read more... )

It is still so odd to me that you don't exchange Christmas cards! Particularly because there ae many cards with baroque German paintings on the faces, as well as many German painting depicting the scene of the Nativity. It's also kind of funny that you're excited by it all because it's a formality, and a dying one, at that, it seems, in our country. I know I, for one, am the only family member that sends out cards for both my and my parents' generation, out of about 30 people. How silly! :3

Yeah, it's strange. One my friends told me she is writing cards, but she's the only one, really, the kind of tradition that you write to everyone and the cars arrive during the whole month is strange to me. My grandparents and parents exchange cards for christmas eve too, but that's all. The cards have to arrive for the 24th and not before or after... and well 2 cards, that's all.
But I like the idea to send those cards to friends all over the world. :) I'm afraid they won't arrive in good time, but if I understood it right, it's okay if the come a bit later, right?

Of course! The whole reason behind them is to keep in touch and spread the love during the holiday season, which extends into New Years, too, for most people. I don't know anyone who would ever complain if it didn't arrive particularly on a certain day of their holiday.

So, then, do you celebrate on the Eve rather than Christmas Day? Or do you only exchange cards that day?

All these different ways to celebrate this season all over the world is so intriguing to me! It's so much fun to read all about the different traditions!

In Germany you receive your presents on Christmas Eve. In most of the familys the christmas tree is arranged in the morning of the 24th, not before.
We have two public holidays the 25th and 26th where we "celebrate" christmas ("Weihnachten" in german).
The cards should arrive on the 23 or 24 of December not earlier and not after it. Therefor it is more common to send extra cards on New Year's day.

But of course people are different and we have a lot of differences between different familys and their own traditions. A lot of people go to the church, as my family we're not religious at all. I think the traditions differ a lot between religious and unreligious people.

Ah, I'm so relieved! XD
I think I've gotten a bit addicted to my gold and silver pens though, they're so much fun to work with. ;P
