Rennaissance Elastic

I am hand-sewing a German Renaissance shirt and am using Pleat Work (smocking) to make the sleeve and neck smaller, yet stretchy.  Hopefully the result will be Much less aggravating than ties or buttons.

So far, not bad---and the look matches what I've seen in paintings.
