I wrote this around three in the morning, I'm not sure that i know what I'm talking about.

the color green has taken on a new meaning. its no longer the tacky color of that house from your old block. its not the vegetables you dreaded to eat when you were a kid (for some of us). It now means a new way of living, a necessary change in thinking. green ( Read more... )

I wouldn't say that the older generation doesn't care or is unaware; as a whole. It just seems like this from what I have seen, heard, or read recently. And I don't really understand the part about teenage males ( ... )

I wasn't attacking you man I just wanted to engage some thinking. And my extreme right wing market based environmental solution angle was not understood, for that I am sorry. Feel free to enjoy the extreme left wing government intervention solution below ( ... )

I'm still learning about the extant of what is being done. Theres a lot out there to absorb. I've gotten most of what I have learned from news, discovery channel, national geographic magazine, internet. Maybe some of those sources aren't the most reliable, but i feel they do pretty well .It also makes it harder when I hear differing facts and articles. Right now I'm just hoping that every thing will be all right. I didn't mean to be pretentious or critical of anyone.

I think I just wanted to write about what i feel is going on. As i said at the beginning, i'm not sure about all this.

i dont believe there is anything wrong with questioning the status quo. imagine the way things would be now if people didnt demand change. and although the older generation has made advances, they are still proving to be a little sluggish in coming up with solutions.
On top of that, there are still people who dont even recognize global warming as a serious possiblity.
the problem now is that coal and oil industries have no real incentive to further advance greener techonologies (some of which have already been developed) because everyone is still buying their products/energy as is. furthermore, many products (like energy-saving lightbulbs) are actually rather cost-effective.

there is nothing arrogant about being concerned.

Waiting for the market has never worked for saving the environment and it probably never will.

I'll cite the banning of CFCs would have probably never occurred without the government, neither would the vast reduction in CO2, NOx and sulfuric acid emissions.

It is likely that a sudden change in the emissions and pollution regulations would hurt the economy, but the market will be forced to produce new and innovative clean technologies much faster.

Necessity is the mother of all inventions, if we make change necessary, the means and will to do so will come as a result.

oh. and about light bulbs. its true that one lightbulb does very little. but the statistics on if even like 1/4 of the population used them are pretty huge.

there are many things in the world to worry about and environmental protection and being "green" are just a couple. but these are things that are palpable. i cant find a cure for aids or feed everyone in the world. but i can buy some damn lightbulbs and vote for people who make limits on emissions and the like a focus of theirs while in office. true, we did not start the "green" movement but we could take the initiative to push it forward.

and hey man. peace.
