See I'm a plotter. A dyed in the wool, obsessive, detail orientated, what colour socks are they wearing plotter. By the time I actually start to write in Word or Scrivener I've usually spent several months thinking and over thinking and putting it all on paper so my first draft is more or less already done in my notes, I just need to string it all ( Read more... )

My first response is that you spend far too much time with Ikea! Remember Nano is about words not sense. And come the end you'll have all these pieces for wardrobes, bookshelves, tables and weird objects. So you can pull out all the pieces you want in December and have some alternative projects to think about over Christmas dinner.

I plan and write everything in my head and then transfer to screen. Notes are for names and relationships. Paper is for maps.

My characters love to go haring off in random directions. They also delight in being far too reasonable- I give them some sort of past trauma that means they won't be happy in situation A and will kick up a fuss about it. I get them to situation A, having established that this will be a problem for them, and at the first reasonable suggestion (that should have provoked hysterics) they go 'oh, that makes sense and I've been such a silly sausage all these years'. Grrr.
