Cinema Square vol. 62

Ninjani! Mirai he no tatakai

Kiriyama Akito x Nakama Junta x Nagase Ren x Onishi Ryusei x Morimoto Shintaro

Have you seen the finished movie?

Onishi: Yes, I have!

Nakama: Really? We haven’t seen it yet.

Morimoto: I’m also going to see it after this interview in complete private showing.

Nagese: Me and Ryusei, we were able to watch it in Osaka’s private showing room.

Kiriyama: Well, we’ll leave the commenting about the movie to you.

Onishi: Umm, at first, five ninjas from Kansai are gathered together but on the way, they are destroyed and it’s about how they’ll become friends again.

Nakama: ”Destroyed” (laughs).

Kiriyama: You really summarized it simply~

Kiriyama-san, how was it to co-star with your cute kouhais?

Kiriyama: We have done butais together, and we kept talking all the time during the waiting times on the filming spot so the distance shrank naturally. We talked about like how ”waiting is also one feature of making movies”.

Nagase: For the two of us, being the talking partner for longer time was honestly tiresome.

Kiriyama: You did take the initiative and just played, brat! Ryusei, you tell about that. Ren’s state when he was to act crying.

Onishi: We had a scene where we are crying over Akito-kun, who’s passed away because of an illness.

Morimoto: It’s a really important scene, right.

Onishi: Yes it is. Because of that, I was concentrating and about to challenge acting out the scene but Ren-kun, who was beside me, suddenly started singing. He said that ”this is my way of preparing for the role!”.

Kiriyama: Even though I was a dead character, I became able to breathe again (laughs).

Nagase: I was distracted by the nervousness and accidentally started singing…

Is this the first time of acting in a movie for you two?

Nagase/Onishi: Yes!

Morimoto-kun too, your first time acting in a movie was around the same age as them.

Morimoto: It was when I was on the 6th grade in elementary school. It was a movie called ”Snow Prince”.

Kiriyama: Moreover, you were the lead? Were you nervous?

Morimoto: I don’t really remember that (laughs).

Your co-stars were all veteran actors.

Morimoto: Asano Tadanobu-san played the father, and Kagawa Teruyuki-san was also acting together with me.

Nakama: Kagawa Teruyuki-san! He is my favorite actor. I’m jealous.

Morimoto: At that time, I didn’t really realize myself what I was doing, but now I think I was able to get a really great experience from it.

For Nakama-san too, it seems like this was your first time challenging a full-scale historical play.

Nakama: My face isn’t really suited for historical plays, right? I was worried whether it’d look like a cosplay of foreign tourist who came to Kyoto (laughs). Then, I’m really obliged to Kyomoto (Masaki)-san. Because Taiga-kun was there, it felt like being teased by your friend’s dad (laughs).

Morimoto: On the contrary, Taiga tried not to let out the parent-and-child atmosphere.

Nakama: Both Shin-chan and Taiga, you really did your best earnestly.

Morimoto: Because we were the only ones coming from Kanto, I was rather nervous.

Nakama: But that’s a lie~ (laughs)

Kiriyama: No, but I understand that. Before, when I went to Tokyo alone for work, I had this weird nervous feeling.

Morimoto: But Akito-kun and Junta-kun really took us into consideration so the nervousness disappeared.

Kiriyama: No no, that kind of talk... it’s okay to say it in a bit louder voice ♥

In the movie, a question ”what is important for a ninja?” comes up, but what is important for Johnny’s?

Kiriyama: I have a lot to say, so it’s okay to go before me.

Nagase: Suspicious. Are you skipping because you really haven’t thought about it (laughs)?

Onishi: For me, it’s maybe the gratitude feeling and a ”thank you” I can say to the staff.

Kiriyama: Y-you, you’ll sure be popular!

Morimoto: Ahaha (laughs)!

Nagase: Umm, I think it’s having ambition.

Nakama: With what do you specially want to work hard?

Nagase: I think singing. When you get older, dancing becomes harder but with singing, can’t you just continue until your voice dies? I’ll be a Johnny’s until I die!

Nakama: That’s even more ambition than I imagined (laughs).

Kiriyama: For Shin-chan, it’s okay to be boke. As a Tokyo representative, decide with a snap!

Morimoto: On the contrary, that’s pressure (laughs). Hmm, to not be afraid to lose one’s face, I think. If one’s showing off but then becoming so abashed that one falls silent, I think it would be better to make a scene instead.

Kiriyama: Oh, right right. If one’s afraid of failing, it’s no good.

Morimoto: But with Kansai, even if you fail, it’ll make people laugh, won’t it. In Tokyo, we just make a scene.

Kiriyama: That’s the scariest! Well, next is Junta-kun.

Nakama: Wanting to be popular among girls.

Nagase/Onishi: Ee-!

Nakama: Isn’t that true? If you only like singing, wouldn’t it be better to sing as a hobby? Because we want to hear ”kyaa, kyaa” when we get on stage, we are doing our best. We want to make girls happy and become cooler. The moment you forget those feelings, you lose the sparkles.

Nagase: From today on, I want to be popular!

Kiriyama: You’re so obedient (laughs). Okay, lastly, I shall sum everything up. For Johnny’s, the essential -- that’s the face!

Everyone: Laughing loudly

Kiriyama: And, that was a joke (laughs). I think it’s to be honestly having fun, no matter what you’re doing. With this movie as well, the fact that we were having fun while doing it will surely be conveyed. With our endurance, we want to make as many people happy as possible, right. As we debuted, I really felt like that more and more. How was this answer, Ren-kun?

Nagase: It’s a success!

Q. Things you want to challenge this summer?

Kiriyama: In summer, I want to buy a computer.

Nakama: Summer and computers have nothing to do with each other (laughs).

Kiriyama: I have always been an analog faction but I finally thought that I should make a digital debut!

Nakama: Was there some kind of motive for it?

Kiriyama: I couldn’t bear with the irritation that even though we finally released our own CD, I couldn’t import it to my portable music player.

Nakama: I see (laughs). Mine also has nothing to do with summer but I’m thinking of changing the first person.

Kiriyama: First person? Speaking of “boku” or “ore” or the like? [T/N: boku and ore and masculine ways of saying “I/me”, boku being slightly more polite.]

Nakama: Yea yea. Making this one preparation of me approaching 30, I’d soon want to change my first person word to “watashi”. [T/N: a neutral, polite way of saying me for men.] Sakurai Sho-kun uses “watashi”. I genuinely want to do newscaster’s work, so.

Kiriyama: Good that it was “watashi”. I thought what to do if you had said you’d go with “oidon” or the like (laughs). [T/N: oidon is Kagoshima dialect for I/me. Very masculine, implies strength etc.]

Nagase: Speaking of summer, that’s sea. I’d want to try challenge surfing. I think it’s quite cool~ It looks fun to ride the waves!

Morimoto: Oh, that’s nice. Me, too, started surfing last year.

Nagase: Right, so I heard. I’d really want you to teach me.

Morimoto: If you come to Tokyo, I’ll take you with me.

Onishi: Because I have proper summer holiday, I want to put some strength in studying.

Nagase: Oh, you’re being serious! Liar~

Onishi: I became a middle schooler this spring so right now I want to do my best with math.

Nagase: You were serious... What about Shintaro-kun?

Morimoto: I want to go afar by bicycle.

Onishi: Oh, sounds like fun!

Nagase: So like going around Japan by bicycle?

Morimoto: No, like from home to work and stuff.

Nagase: Like that, you surely just get exhausted?

Morimoto: Th-that’s right...
