To anyone who ever wastes their time reading this journal, I seriously need your help.

I got an internship in Quebec, Canada. In order to work a budget out, I would very much like to know how much money you spend in a month, with the basics (roof, food, transportation). AND, about the wheather.. is it really THAT cold? I'm used to temperatures ( Read more... )

Yes, it is that cold. garden_hoe21 October 19 2011, 20:26:15 UTC
The key to dressing in Canada is layers. So on a cold day I'd wear a regular tank, and then a sweater over it, and then a really, really serious winter coat. That'll set you back a couple hundred dollars maybe. You will need a hat (known also as a toque, pronounced took), and warm mittens or gloves, and a scarf if your coat doesn't protect your neck. A small space-heater would also be a good investment, along with warm socks for around the house. You can get by in English, but it's a good idea to have some French basics just in case.

I don't live in Quebec so I don't know much about rent, food, or transport prices, but the museum of civilization has a free day, tuesdays I think, so take advantage of that. Also, I know Quebec City has a pretty decent bus system that's not too hard to understand.

Invest in a good pair of boots - that may set you back another hundred. If you're gonna be there in spring/summer, remember your sunscreen.

Oh, and remember your shades because on a sunny day, the light reflecting off the snow can be really glaring.

Financially, some of the things here may be helpful for budget building: http://www.gailvazoxlade.com/resources.html

THANKS! I really appreciate you taking the time to say these things. I'm not 'scared' about the cold, I don't think it'll be a problem for me (although it's good to know it ain't that cold) I was thinking of getting leggings, I didn't take them to the winter in Argentina and I regret it! What does freak me out is finding a place to live in.. I hope I find a good one :)

I'll try and remember these places, and I hope work gives me the time to do those things =)
