Things that don't substitute for other things

So, I've been learning so much recently:

Men's tailored dress pants are not the same as women's tailored dress pants. (Discovered ruefully after a J. Crew sample sale with ridiculously low prices, but apparently jumbled men's and women's racks and with a "no-trying-on" policy.)

Tablespoons are not the same as teaspoons. (I'm looking at you, Read more... )

Actually, I think he was probably exhorting you to have somebody else do them, but I suppose that may not be practical. :-)
And yes, I discovered that about olive oil with a brownie recipe (might have been a mix) a good number of years ago. The rest of my family was very nice about it. ;-)

Gotta buy some other vegetable oil today...

Also, would you be willing to share your recipe for happy fucking birthday muffins? There's a charity bake-off at work this week, and I'm trying to decide what to take. (Pancake on a bed of bunny, a la this icon, is probably not going to make the cut, especially if your muffins are an option.)

I asked Google to convert a massive inverse tablespoon into pounds per square inch and received only gibberish. Obviously their calculator is second-rate and their engineering energies are directed elsewhere.

I spent years thinking that there where three tablespoons in a quarter-cup instead of four. I don't doubt that affected some of my cooking.

But the real reason I dropped by this entry to comment, is to say this: I love tablespoons. Frakkin' love 'em. When I was a kid, it always had to be a tablespoons. Teaspoons were for schlimiels.

Ha! Thanks for introducing me to Meliza.

Good to know that it's thus 16 tablespoons to a cup, and that tablespoons are that awesome!

I've actually developed a bizarrely satisfying habit of doing my dishes before bed in the last few weeks. I actually am comforted by the feeling that when I lay down, my kitchen is full of clean dishes.

I'm afraid of my brain. D:
