When I was in college, I worked at Kinderfoto. It was a job rife with challenges: how hard is just hard enough to blow in a baby’s face to make it smile? First of all, your companion should be flogged. It was LOW to abandon you at the Booth of Doom.

Second, I am getting better at just turning around and walking away. What happens is that instead of listening to them, I simply run through all my options and their potential outcomes in my mind.

Invariably, I settle upon the following argument: Why should I stand here and make my life worse just so this annoying and insensitive person might perceive his or her life to be better?

Then I turn around and walk away.

Rude? Perhaps. But it's far ruder to impose upon someone's sense of civility to try and coerce them read your crappy book(s).

I know what you mean--I actually said to Companion, "Man... I am just too polite!" (And, in all fairness... perhaps I had not been completely ABANDONED... perhaps face-to-face with the Lunger, it just felt that way. :) )

Perhaps you should make it habit to walk around with that plant in your LJ photo in front of you. Then, when confronted with a Lunger, you can keep moving along like you're totally comouflaged.

Yes! Plus--fish are just so slippery, I don't think I could manage to do ANYthing to them with my bare hands. :)
