Things that make you go "Hmmmm"sofiapopiaSeptember 16 2001, 14:55:15 UTC
First off, I know you are probably wondering who the heck I am, well...I'm Sofia. I'm one of Leslie's best friends and I was just reading her journal and I decided to read her friends as well. I figure anyone friends with Leslie has got to be cool. Everything that is going on in America these days really sucks, and im very proud of how we are all taking this in. Seems that everyone has the best for our people in mind, finally there is a sense of liberation. But, I couldnt help but read the post that someone sent you about all the things the US does to help foreign countries. Did you know that after Pearl Harbor the US sent 120,000 americans of Japanese ancestry to concentration camps in the western US? That is a total violation of their civil rights. I bet you didnt know that.....20 years after all of that the only president who had the balls to apologize and recognize how fucked up that was, was Bill Clinton. He stated in a public letter that we let our own people down, and contributed to what may have become a serious race war,

To be quite honest, I did know most of that. I have myself visited other countries and heard what they have to say about America, and because I am not some die-hard citizen, I usually didn't even try to defend us because I know that we cause a lot of trouble world-wide. I don't agree with the all the aspects of the lifestyle around here and I don't approve of everything that has occurred in the past. I just thought that what this Canadian wrote was nice considering it does have some legit point even though there are a lot of counter arguments. Hell, I don't even agree completely with what the Canadian defended, but I did find it interesting. The truth, sure, we do have the power to make things better all over the world, but the problem lies within this country itself and the very wealthy

Sorry that I got a little defensive earlier...I didn't realize I came across that way until I just reread it. As for Leslie, I have only met her once but I have heard a lot about her (Good things, of course:) I am one of Steven's good friends from Purdue, so when he was living there, I ran into her on the internet a few times. I met her when I came down over Labor Day, and you are lucky to have her as a friend.
