Disney is so cute when it's sheepish!

Just saw Princess and the Frog.  Wonderful movie!  The ending was a little too saccharine on my very cynical movie goer's taste buds, but hey it's Disney!  Or rather, Disney done right. Good story, beautiful visuals, developed characters...  The messages were heavy-handed, but they were very nice messages so I won't complain too much.

Would I be a total dork if I said that Tiana reminded me a lot of Nami from One Piece?

You just made that movie, like, a hundred times more awesome for me! XD And I thought it was adorable, if a little "saccharine on my very cynical movie goer's taste buds" :P

... except for the part when the mom said she wanted Tiana to find her "Prince Charming". That was nauseating. Not adorable.

Tiana is freaking awesome though, whatever my thoughts on getting-hitched-days-after-meeting. XP

And Disney was actually being subtle about the racism

The race thing was handled supremely well, I thought - and I was on the watch for it because of all the drama surrounding the movie before it even came out ^^;. When those two assholes made that jibe about her background and she went all tense I hurt inside. :(

Facilier was a really interesting villain too. And his song rocked XD

Oh yes, Facilier is quickly becoming one of my favorite Disney villains! I mean, he's passed Scar already because that song was just so...yes, best Disney villain song since Ursula's "Poor Unfortunate Souls!" "Friends on the Other Side" was so well done and his motives! His diabolical plan to sell out his own city to gain power! His hatred and his cunning all made for a great villain that didn't need a sad or traumatizing background to still be a wonderful and complex character! :D

People can rag on Disney being either "too politically correct" or "not sensitive enough to race/gender issues," but I believe they handled 20s New Orleans extraordinarily well!

So yeah, I'm getting that for my kid sister for her birthday now that she's entered the "Disney princesses phase." If she's going to worship archetypes of women, she may as well have a good archetype to look up to! :)
