A lot of Russian soldiers are conscripts and from what I've read/seen, many genuinely had no idea they were invading Ukraine or thought they were invading in retaliation for some made up offense.

Yeah, I've read that too. Youngsters, no idea why they are there and they're being used as cannon fodder. :(
