Old skool Daleks yay! I just hope this doesn't mean they're the big bad again... we've done that a couple of seasons now.
Though it annoyed me that the guy who played Churchill is the same actor who played the town crier on Rome. I kept waiting for him to wave his arms about and yell "All hail Gaius! Julius! Caesar!" And Stottish Scientist was Manny's dad from Black Books. (His mom played Amy's aunt - plot point? ;-) )
Also, this is one of those episodes where I'm really not sure what we're supposed to think of the Doctor's actions. I mean, if he'd just left them alone, there'd still just be three rather mangy Daleks. And if they'd kept the tech, they might have won the war sooner and saved a lot of people. Or if the Doctor had stuck around and continued to help out. Are we supposed to hold the Doctor responsible for not shortening the war, or is that just "Meh, family show, let's not get into that"?

Although when talking about the finale, what people keep saying is 'OMG the Moff does insanely clever things with time!', so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
the guy who played Churchill is the same actor who played the town crier on Rome. Having never seen 'Rome', this was not a problem for me. :)
And Stottish Scientist was Manny's dad from Black Books. So that's why he looked vaguely familiar! (And now I'm humming that tune about the choo-choo train...)
His mom played Amy's aunt - plot point? ;-) Doubtful. She's far more famous for 'One Foot in the Grave'. :)

True. Also, thought: last time the Daleks turned up, we saw stars going out. Darkness. Now, their worst weapon is turning on the lights. And the crack in reality is bleeding light.
Also, there were at least two more rather explicit continuity nods (apart from him telling Churchill to "exterminate" them, like Nine): the Doctor beating a Dalek up with a wrench is very similar (though far less efficient) to Ace beating up a Dalek with a baseball bat in "Remembrence of the Daleks" (where Seven ended up committing genocide and blowing up a planet), and the Doctor having to make a choice that will impact all that happens in the future isn't unlike Four's decision in "Genesis of the Daleks".

And the crack in reality is bleeding light. So it is...
Also, there were at least two more rather explicit continuity nods Yes, Ace definitely came to mind (even though I only know about her and her baseball bat of DOOM from fandom), although I'm not sure about Genesis of the Dalkes - was that where he could have stopped them from ever being created? Because that would have broken all sorts of time rules...
