I'd have said O'Donnell for the combination of competence, knowledge (specifically about the Doctor), enthusiasm and independence, the fact that she treats her expedition in the TARDIS as an adventure the way Clara does at the start of 'Under the Lake', and the fact that she ends up dead as a result of that combination. All of Clara's doubles this season so far have come to awkward ends, which is some prefiguring I'm interested in seeing if there's any twist to

All of Clara's doubles this season so far have come to awkward ends, which is some prefiguring I'm interested in seeing if there's any twist to. I can see what you mean re. O'Donnell, but overall she reminded me more of Amy (that fiery temper), esp when coupled with Bennett's Rory-ness. That said, I think awkward ends are... not incorrect.
The sunglasses are definitely more of a season-long thematic thing (see 'The Girl Who Died' for the Odinic sacrificing-an-eye imagery, the commentary on seeing through a lens of technology etc Oh yes. But nothing sprang out this time round. Like the symbolism took a couple of weeks off. ;)
in this episode it's only after Clara stops bouncing off the dark mirror and looks out from behind it instead that she can take off her own mask (emotional distance and treating others' dangers as adventure fun time) and acknowledge that she's still carrying her grief for Danny, and she can't run away from it. I like this. Thank you.
I have a theory that all the episode titles in this season refer to Clara in

It was just OK for me - not good or bad, just meh, and precisely because there were no mirrors. Yeah, that's pretty much it. Like... it was a thing. Now what?
I quoted you in my wordpress review by the way I SAW!! (I'm subscribed to the thing that alerts people to new posts.) I was going to send you a message to say thank you, and how flattered I was, but life... *waves hands* I only managed to get my own review of The Girl Who Died out a few hours before the next episode.
I prefer complex Moffat layers lol. I know so many dislike that approach but I LOVE it. LONG MAY IT CONTINUE! <3

O'Donnell was a Clara mirror. And if we're going away from character: the sonic sunglasses are both (dark) mirror and mask. :)

O'Donnell? I'd have said Bennett & Cass. (Bennett for the loss and Cass for the critical attitude.)

True. But they're not inherent to the episode as such.
