Logging daily words

I noticed gerriwritinglog posting a word count for a couple of days and I was wondering if I actually counted and logged my words on a daily basis would that help me stay motivated? I think this would be a fantastic idea. I can keep track of words that relate to my writing in my local calendar. I wonder how many words I could write in one month? One year?

I set up a spreadsheet to track my words this month for April Fools and I think I'm going to add May and continue doing it. It helps to see what I'm writing and it helps me to identify my writing patterns.

What do you put in your spreadsheet? Just a column for date and a column for words?
