I can see you are angry, and I understand why. I am not quite sure I understand the "system" in your son's classroom - all that "note" stuff. It's confusing! And that "it fell out and hit a girl" explanation about the marker sounds a bit odd to me too.

I wonder if perhaps a face-to-face meeting with the teacher (when you are feeling a little calmer) might be a good idea? You could get some things clarified.

Maybe she could telephone or email you if there was a problem, so you could understand the situation a little better (after you have also heard your son's version) and respond appropriately.

Do you know if other parents are having the same sort of problem? If so, perhaps the parents could have a brainstorming session about how to handle it. A collective voice is often more powerful than a single voice.

Hmmm sounds like a little more to this story than my nephew is telling but I'm at a loss to understand why you have to write a note to the teacher. You weren't there. Why do you need to write a note? I understand that perhaps she would write a note to you telling you about the incident but really, it was a marker pen for goodness sake - it wasn't going to cause concussion regardless of whether it was intended to hit the girl or not. Talk about making mountains out of molehills ( ... )

I totally agree with the point you are making, but sadly in these days of rampant lawsuits, I think folks/teachers go overboard sometimes in trying to cover their a**es.

The son of a friend of mine was kidding around with a group of pals at school. He made a big, flamboyant arm gesture which accidentally hit a girl walking past the group. It was not done on purpose, but he got sued for assault by the girl's parents. The case eventually got thrown out, but it was a strain and a drain on his parents.

Thank you both for your comments. Oh and not to worry I believe there might be more to the story but that's the thing. How will I know if the teacher doesn't let me. As for her emailing, she never does. Actually last time I emailed her I got no response. So I've given up on that and I've never received a real note from her unless it was on a progress report ( ... )
