Wow, thank you for this, and apologies for taking so long to writing a reply!
You pretty much got him spot-on, as far as my image of Luke is concerned, and also summarised what I like so much about the guy.
And I really like your first point: I guess this particular combination of daydreaming idealism and fatalism is what happens when someone as naive as Luke is put in an environment that doesn't work according to his ideas (i.e. his uncle not letting him go to the academy etc.)
(Also, it's funny how I find myself in some of the points, though mostly the not entirely positive - idealistic, short fuse... Yep, sounds familiar.)
You're welcome! Luke is one of those characters that seems very simple on the face of it, but when you take a closer look - a lot of interpretations of him don't really match up to what I see at all. I'm glad other fans agree with me about him, though!
I do think the fatalism is probably a result of virtually everyone trying to mould him into something he isn't and leaving him with apparently no way out. I think it's also a certain amount of realism, though! He seems to have a pretty good idea of how things are.
Heeeh, the identification is kind of how it is for me when I get to thinking about Leia. :)
Somebody else asked for Anakin Skywalker over at dw, so here's that. I can do a more Vader-centric one if you want, though - I thought quite a bit about that for one of my longfics
