I was hoping to catch up before my birthday in *squints* forty minutes (though I guess I can give myself until 8:10, haha), which seems fairly unlikely. But, more!
What I detest in this version is the ending. Andrew Davies chose to end with a hack wedding, interspersed with close-ups of all the characters who have interfered with D&E. AT that point, one has no wish to see any more of the vile Wickham, obnoxious Lydia or insufferable Lady Cat. Why the hell didn't he use the great D&E banter that JA left to us????? Aagh!
It's not the thing I hate most - that would be either turning Darcy's smiling retorts into angry snapping ur cutting out the end of the letter - but, yeah, the end is decidedly unsatisfactory. None of Elizabeth pining over coffee, none of the post-engagement conversations, nothing of Elizabeth protecting Darcy and their shared dislike for the neighbourhood, just ... nothing.
