Drooling over at the V & A

I can't tell you how excited I am that the Victoria & Albert Museum has so much of it's collection online.  I always manage to find something new each time I look.  Since the shows are settling down now, I've started digging up more research for the new outfit(s) I want to make for Twelfth Night.  And, as always I'm finding more than I was ( Read more... )

That's my dream jacket! It's teal! Though there's a pink and gold one somewhere else. I think Boston MFA? Let me check my bookmarks.

Pfft, no. It was at the V&A, too.

That linen and silk jacket has stripes. Stripes!

I loved the V&A -- it was absolutely my favorite museum in London. Their textile collection is very cool, but my favorite item was something else entirely: http://collections.vam.ac.uk/item/O93254/cup-and-cover/

They have several of these fancy cups made from coconuts, and some are pre-1600. Apparently, they were very popular in Germany, where a coconut was a rare and exotic thing. Kind of like having a tiki bar in your basement in Wisconsin.
